The Canio Negro Wildlife refuge is considered one of the best locations on the continent for bird-watching. In addition to an abundance of birds, Canio Negro is also home to many other animals, such as sloth’s, caimans, lizards, bats, three types of monkeys and a wide variety of flora native to the wetlands.

Our tour to this beautiful region leaves from La Fortuna and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to Los Chiles, a small village just five kilometers away from the Nicaraguan border. It is here that we start our boat trip to the wetlands. We will work our way slowly upstream, stopping along the way as we see different birds and animal species. Around noon, we will stop along the river for a typical Costa Rican lunch before heading back to Los Chiles to take the bus back to La Fortuna.

This canoe journey begins with a quick transfer of the group to the East side of Lake Arenal to a landing where you will enter the water. During the tour, our experienced nature guide will lead you in the exploration of various areas of the Lake Arenal in search of exotic wildlife such as monkeys and beautifully colored tropical birds.

To further enjoy the serenity of the tour, you will make your way to a small island in the middle of the Lake for a snack.  You will be served delicious tropical fruits of Costa Rica.  Continuing the canoe trip, you will be guided to one of the borders of the Lake where the tour will end.

This canoe trip is a unique adventure, especially designed for those who enjoy nature. You will paddle downriver in the waters of the Frio River, across the Tropical Rainforest of the Canio Negro Wildlife Refuge, a place where plants and animals abound. You will see animals as close as a few yards away because the canoe makes it easy to approach the many different species that live near the river.

If you only have one day and want to see a wide range of wildlife, this canoe tour is a perfect choice.

This tour starts early in the morning. Tourists are picked up in the town of La Fortuna and driven to the small town of Canio Negro, which is about two hours away. Once there, you’ll enjoy a delicious typical Costa Rican breakfast. After breakfast, the exploration of the Canio Negro Wild Refuge by canoe will begin. After paddling for about four hours, we will meet at the restaurant El Caiman, where you’ll eat lunch. After lunch, there are two options to end the tour: One is to end the canoe trip at the restaurant. The other option is to continue paddling downriver for about two more hours towards the town of Los Chiles. In either case, you will be brought back to your pickup point in La Fortuna, where the tour will end.

Mysterious and imposing, in the very bowels of the Tenorio Volcano, manifestations of hidden power transform the union of two rivers: Buena Vista and Roble into a sky blue stream, giving birth to one of the most extraordinary phenomenon’s of nature: “Light Blue River”. Along the river we will find hot springs, bends of heavenly tranquility and a waterfall of singular beauty, all surrounded by varied flora and fauna.

Our trip begins at 7:30 a.m. in La Fortuna.  From here, we will make our way to Rio Celeste, which is located in the Tenorio Volcano National Park. Upon our arrival, we will begin a 7 kilometer walk (approximately 4 hours) through the rainforest, toward Los Teñideros, where we will find two springs of light blue water.  The unusual color of the water is the reason behind the name of this location.

On our way back, we will walk down along a path where we will find fumaroles filled with mud, (which are known as “ollas,”). During this walk, the volcanic gases can be observed due to the high temperatures as well as thermal waters. During this walk, the high temperatures will allow us to observe the volcanic gases.  We will also see the thermal waters created by the volcano.  We will soon arrive at a beautiful waterfall with crystal clear water of celestial color. We will conclude our journey with a delicious lunch.

The Chato Hill is a volcano that forms a brotherhood system with the Arenal Volcano and it is located southeast of it. Is is approximately 3420 feet above sea level. It consists of a truncated cone, the upper part of which is a crater created by a volcanic eruption. The crater is 1500 - 1650 feet in diameter.

Nestled in the crater is an oblong lagoon with a length of 750 feet from North - South and 350 feet from East to West, with a maximal depth of 57 feet.

We will begin this journey traveling from La Fortuna, around the Arenal Volcano toward the Hotel Observatory Lodge. From here, we’ll begin the walk to the Cerro Chato through a dense primary forest. While there, we will visit the Cerro Chato lake where you can go for a swim, take pictures, and get to know the surroundings and the great biodiversity of the area. We will then continue our descent and hike while we appreciate the different species of birds, plants, trees and animals familiar to the zone and the beautiful views and landscapes of The San Carlos Valley and the Arenal Volcano.

The walk will end at La Fortuna Waterfall, where we will go down to the river and enjoy the beautiful natural landscape. Here, you will also have the opportunity to take a swim in the waterfall river, before returning to La Fortuna.

We will begin our trip in La Fortuna, then drive for about one hour and 45 minutes to La Tigra San Ramón, Poco Sol continuing on to the scientific station at Pocosol.

Once at the station, we will hike the trail for about 4 hours in order to visit a volcanic lake at an altitude of 1.100 meters. As we continue the hike, we will observe the surrounding ecosystem of primary forest and small volcanic fumaroles. With the help of our nature guide, we will discover different species of animals such as deer, peccary, bustling monkeys and congos. Birds like the toucan, the oriole, and a variety of humming birds abound. The elusive parasol bird also nests in these forests.

*The Scientific Station of Pocosol was built with the purpose of housing scientific researchers; however, it has the basic facilities to lodge tourists.

This station is the property of the Children’s Eternal Forest Reserve that is administered by the Monteverde Conservationist Association. It is classified as one of the most important and oldest private reservations in Central America and protects more than 17.000 hectares or forest.

This tour that begins at 7:30am, gives you the opportunity to enjoy some of the principal attractions that the Arenal area has to offer, in a single day of adventure. The Tour starts with the Hanging Bridge, a 1.9 mile (3.1 km) hike along a trail where you can enjoy the tropical rainforest.

Or “along a trail through the tropical rainforest” The trail crosses nine fixed bridges and six suspension bridges, which span between 5 to 10 meters with heights up to 60 meters. This hike is a perfect choice that all the family can enjoy.

Our next stop is La Fortuna Waterfall. From the trailhead, you will hike approximately 15 minutes before reaching this majestic waterfall, where you can take a swim or simply enjoy its beauty. Then we will return to the town of La Fortuna for lunch. After lunch, you will have the opportunity to rest until 3:00 pm when we begin our hike to the Volcano. We will choose one of several trails, depending on which side of the volcano the lava is flowing. All the trails offer a great variety of plants and wildlife for you to see, and some will even give you the opportunity to walk on old lava flows.

At the end of the hike, you will enjoy the sunset, then wait until dark in the hope that you will see and hear the glowing chunks of lava tumbling down the side of the mountain, a sight you won’t soon forget. You can end the day with a relaxing dip in the Hot Springs followed by a buffet dinner.

Stay in a charming lodge, paddle downriver in a canoe and walk in a remote virgin forest, located in the northern area of San Carlos. The Majestic Volcano Arenal Tour starts with a drive to the active northwestern side of the volcano. Once there, you will begin a hike along the Las Coladas Trail in the Arenal Volcano National Park.

This trail crosses the rainforest and passes over a large lava flow that was formed in 1992. During the Majestic Volcano Arenal Tour, it is possible to observe a great variety of plants, wildlife, magnificent lava formations and a wonderful view of the sunset over Lake Arenal. The hike ends at a viewing area where, if weather permits, you will be able to see red-hot lava rolling down the side of the volcano wall. During the tour, our experienced guides will provide you with interesting and educational information regarding the history of the majestic mountain and the Arenal Volcano National Park.

At the end of the Raft Safari, you’ll make a stop at la finca de Don Pedro (Mr. Pedro’s farm), where a snack will be served. Don Pedro’s farm is a place where you can observe the typical lifestyle of farmers in Costa Rica and enjoy the hospitality of a Costa Rican family.

The Raft Safari is the same, except that instead of visiting Don Pedro’s farm, you will stop at the riverside for a snack.

This tour is especially designed for those who don’t mind getting wet and muddy.

This fascinating underground adventure will take you through the Venado Caves, a labyrinth of passages and chambers in which you will see stalactites, stalagmites, bats, spiders and rock formations such as “La Papaya.” You will also be able to see evidence that the caves were, at one time, at the bottom of the ocean. The caves are located only 45 minutes away from La Fortuna.

We recommend bringing an extra set of dry clothes.

The Balsa River is ideal for first-time river rafters, with class 2 and 3 rolling rapids to ride. The location is perfect for a half-day tour because of its proximity to La Fortuna.

No experience is necessary for this tour, however it is advised that you know how to swim, even though you will be given life jackets to wear. This tour is recommended for ages 7 to 65 and for both first-timers and experts.

The tour on Sky Tram starts at 2,132 ft at the reception and reaches a wide observation deck at the highest point of the Arenal Reserve, from where you can observed the vast flora and fauna of the Tropical Rainforest and panoramic views of the Arenal volcano and the Arenal lake. The journey in Sky Tram takes around 20 minutes (one way) with the possibility of intermediate with short stops that will be supplemented with information of a naturalist guide.

Once you have reached the observation deck, you can enjoy a guided walk through the Tropical Rainforest in one of the trails of the Arenal Reserve, with duration of 30 minutes.

Sky Tram is for all ages and even for people with some disability, thanks to the space of the gondola cars that accommodate wheelchairs.

The Arenal Volcano Bungee jumping is an activity that involves jumping from a platform at 131 ft while connected to a large elastic cord.
The thrill of this experience comes  from both the impressive view of the Arenal Volcano and the free-falling.
